The 2027 abstract submission portal is now open and accepting abstracts through Monday, September 14 (9:00 PM ET).
Submit an abstract for a chance to present your science to more than 3,000 professionals and have your work published in the PREGNANCY supplement.
Before accessing the submission portal, please review the General Abstract Submission Brochure. It provides essential details about this year’s process and will help you prepare your materials in advance for a smoother submission experience.

Pregnancy Meeting Registration Policy for Accepted Abstract Presenters
All accepted abstracts will require the individual designated as the Presenting Author to register and attend the Pregnancy Meeting to present the abstract in person (in Oxon Hill, MD). SMFM does not offer discounted or complimentary registration to abstract presenters.
Important Dates
- Friday, July 10, 2026: Submission portal opens for general abstract submissions
- Monday, September 14 (9:00 pm ET): General abstract submission deadline
- Monday, October 5: Pregnancy Meeting registration opens
- Friday, November 6: Submitting, presenting, and coaughors are notified of submission status (accepted or declined)
- Friday, November 13: Abstract withdrawal deadline
- Monday, November 16: Submission portal opens for late-breaking abstract submissions
- Monday, December 21 (9:00 pm ET): Late-breaking abstract submission deadline
- Monday, January 11, 2027: Late-breaking authors notified of late-breaking submission status (accepted or declined)

Each year, outstanding abstracts submitted to the SMFM Pregnancy Meeting™ are recognized through competitive awards and scholarships. These honors celebrate scientific excellence, innovation, and dedication to advancing maternal-fetal medicine.
Scientific Awards
- Bruce A. Work Award: Recognizes the best research by a practicing or in-training MFM based outside the U.S.
- Norman F. Gant Award: Honors exceptional research in maternal medicine, focusing on medical complications of pregnancy.
- Disparities Award: Recognizes research addressing equity, disparities, and social determinants of health in perinatal outcomes.
- Dru Carlson Memorial Award: Celebrates excellence in ultrasound and prenatal genetics research.
Scholarship & Travel Awards
- Outstanding Early Career Investigator Travel Award (Supported by Dr. Laxmi Baxi): $1,000 award to support travel for early-career investigators.
- Scholarship for Research in TAPS/Monochorionic Twins: $2,500 scholarship for the highest-scoring abstract on TAPS and/or monochorionic twin pregnancies, supported by the Kaiden Paul Foundation.
- Foundation for SMFM Resident Scholars Program: Provides mentoring, educational opportunities, and stipends for promising OB/GYN residents interested in maternal-fetal medicine.

Yes, nonmembers can submit an abstract.
Yes, we accept industry-supported abstracts. All financial interests, commercial or federally funded research, must be disclosed upon submission.
No, abstracts must not be previously presented or published. If you intend to submit your work for publication, the publication date must be after March 26, 2027 (last day of the SMFM meeting).
While there is no prohibition, case reports are rarely accepted. Most accepted presentations are observational or interventional studies with comparative designs. If structured to meet the requirements, case reports may be submitted for peer review.
No, panel presentations are not accepted.
All abstracts undergo a blinded peer-review process. They are initially reviewed by four General Reviewers. Top-scoring abstracts are then reviewed by four Senior Reviewers, with final selections made by the Program Committee.
No, all presenters must register and pay full conference fees to attend in person.
Abstracts can be edited until the submission deadline (Monday, September 14, 2026, at 9:00 pm ET). After this deadline, edits cannot be made, and accepted abstracts will be published as submitted.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the PREGNANCY supplement. Authors also assign copyright to SMFM upon acceptance.
